Since thinking more about living sustainably I regularly find quotes, thoughts or people that inspire me. My plan is to post a favorite inspiration each week.
This week's quote I am sure many of you would have come across....but I think it is one of those quotes that cannot be quoted too often.
"Be the change you want to see in the world" ...Mahatma Gandhi...
In my experience, all too often people feel helpless or frustrated when it comes to helping save the environment...they complain about what others are or are not doing and believe "What difference can I make?". But everyone can each make ALL the difference. All each individual can do is make changes themselves and hope to inspire others along the way i.e. "be the change you want to see in the world." In my 'real' job working in threatened species conservation, I have increasingly become aware that without the support or interest of the community I cannot achieve anything. I am starting to realise more and more that change has to start in the home. I am sure this quote means different things to different people. I would love comments from others re what this quote means to you. I have been having so much summer fun I have not yet gotten around to calculating our ecological footprint.
Here is Little Eco and I taking an unplanned dip in Sydney Harbour...
